Kia ora
2024 is well underway, and we’re feeling optimistic about the year ahead. Despite the many challenges we face here in Aotearoa and around the world, we have a sense that 2024 brings a renewed energy for change and we look forward to a year of hope and collective action!
Already this year we’ve seen ongoing action in support of an end to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and Māori and Tangata Tiriti are uniting around the Toitū movement to uphold the mana of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. No doubt we will also see more people working together for climate action and social justice.
It may seem that there are more things than ever to stand against, but adversity offers us the opportunity to consider what we stand for. This Waitangi Day let’s reflect on our past and focus on the shared future we want to move towards.
We love this beautiful poem by Witi Ihimaera, Our Watch Now, that reminds us that the future is in our hands.
