Our irregular newsletter seems to be falling into a seasonal pattern this year. We shared our last pānui at the end of summer and this one comes to you at the end of autumn. By the maramataka, the Māori lunar calendar, we’re now in Haratua - a time to prepare for winter. Soon we’ll move into Pipiri and the new lunar year that begins with Matariki - a time to reflect, to celebrate, come together and to look forward to what the new year will bring.
This year has been challenging, with devastating cuts to the public service, more threats to the environment, attempts to redefine Te Tiriti and more. But looking ahead, this newsletter is full of hopeful news about people working together for the common good and sharing a purposeful vision for a collective future.

How can designers be better advocates for people and planet?
Anna and Zenaida took part in a Design Assembly Autumn conversation in Pōneke last month and shared this piece on how designers can use their skills to help people mobilise networks and take collective action. Although this article was written with designers in mind, we think these are ideas that everyone can use. We drew inspiration from The Power Cube, which is a tool that can be used when developing an advocacy campaign strategy to map a situation and find entry points for change.
