We stand as friends and allies of the thousands protesting up and down the country today in opposing the incoming government's legislative assault on te reo Māori, Māori health, and our nation's foundational document, Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We work toward an Aotearoa where Te Tiriti o Waitangi is honoured, te reo Māori is embraced, and tangata whenua prosper. Together we are strong. #toitūtetiriti
The new coalition Government has proposed to undertake measures in its first 100 days that undermine generations of work to revitalise te reo Māori, address inequity and honour the Te Tiriti principles of partnership, participation and protection.
For Purpose recognises Te Tiriti o Waitangi as the foundational document of Aotearoa and seeks to uphold the principles in all our work. We join in the call for Tangata Whenua and Tangata Tiriti to unite and make a stand.
We can all support this kaupapa by:
- Joining in future actions to demonstrate a unified Aotearoa response to the Government’s assault on Tangata Whenua and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- Contacting Coalition leaders and MPs to express our opposition to their actions.
- Speaking out against racism
- Using te reo Māori everyday
- Learning about Te Tiriti and the history of Aotearoa and sharing our knowledge.
